Mr. Torteya, a dual citizen of the U.S. and Mexico, is a Texas attorney whose practice focuses on the following areas: criminal (state & federal courts throughout the U.S.); international; and cross-border transactions (U.S.-Mexico). In the litigation and corporate areas, Mr. Torteya has represented individuals and multinational corporations from various countries in connection with their business transactions and/or litigation concerns. Mr. Torteya has been a featured speaker and lecturer at various federal criminal law conferences and mock trial seminars sponsored by the U.S. State Department throughout Mexico on international and criminal law issues. Mr. Torteya has served as Special Counsel to the Mexican Consulate in Brownsville, Texas since 1997. Mr. Torteya has previously served as Special Counsel for the Brownsville Navigation District in connection with their investigation in connection with the expenditure of over $15 million taxpayer dollars on an international truck/rail bridge project. Mr. Torteya's investigation required him to travel throughout Mexico, and was able to successfully report his findings regarding the trail of the monies spent, which later resulted in criminal prosecution in the U.S. Mr. Torteya, along with a Washington, D.C. law firm, currently represents a national U.S. corporate client in connection with a Mexican federal criminal investigation involving assets seized by the Mexican government, working closely with law enforcement officials in Mexico for their return. |
